Throwing a party is never a walk in the park, and the L’OFFICIEL 10th Anniversary bash had the team burning the midnight oil to pull it all together. It was a whirlwind of endless meetings, sleepless nights and impromptu meals — if any at all. By the time the party wrapped, most of us were running on fumes, and some of us found ourselves battling fatigue or straight-up getting sick. The mountain of work ahead wasn’t going anywhere, so something had to give.

That’s when I decided to treat myself to the Immune Booster Treatment at The Spa at The Four Seasons Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The spa touts its acupuncture treatment as perfect for weary travellers or anyone dealing with fatigue, with its immune-boosting powers designed to restore balance and vitality. Just what the doctor ordered, right?

Adelyn Ng, the Resident Acupuncturist at The Spa, explained, “Acupuncture stimulates the body’s immune response and strengthens your ability to fend off infections.” She added, “Many factors that weaken your immune system can also be addressed through acupuncture.”

The treatment kicked off with a consultation with Adelyn, where she did a full analysis of my body’s qi, or vital energy, which is believed to keep the body in balance. Adelyn’s intuition was on point — after just a few prods and presses, she could tell me all about my daily routine, my diet and even how I started my day that morning. How cool is that?

Next came a ten-minute fire cupping session. Heated glass cups were placed on my back, creating a suction effect and left there for a few moments. “This helps identify which parts of your body or organs need extra care,” Adelyn explained. The trick? The areas of skin that turn dark purple signal where extra attention is needed. That’s when acupuncture comes into play — targeting the acupuncture points with needles to restore balance.

I won’t lie; the idea of multiple needles going into my body was nerve-racking. But with Adelyn in control, the process was smooth and calm. Some areas gave off a tingling sensation, but it was manageable. She placed four needles around my belly button and then activated a red light therapy device over the area. “The light stimulates the needles to rebalance your qi and triggers the release of natural chemicals to combat fatigue,” Adelyn explained. She also inserted two more needles between my first two toes to help me relax. After about 20 minutes, the infrared light was turned off, and the needles were gently removed.

The relief was almost instant. By the next day, I felt a surge of energy and focus, ready to tackle my tasks with renewed vitality. “For those dealing with poor sleep, stress or anxiety, acupuncture can treat these underlying issues while also boosting the immune system,” Adelyn advised. While the exact science behind acupuncture remains unclear — some say it balances vital energy, others argue it has neurological effects — one thing is certain: the Immune Booster Treatment at The Spa is worth experiencing.
